As you can see, Lebron is once again the cover athlete for the 20th Anniversary (actually it’s only the 19th since the original NBA 2k came out in 1999 but don’t tell them that) Special Edition of Visual Concepts’ flagship basketball series.  The NBA 2K Series began life as Sega SPort’s NBA 2K, a sports title for the Dreamcast.  for a brief period, it changed its name to ESPN NBA 2K to coincide with Sega’s brief partnership with ESPN.  After EA gained exclusivity rights to the NFL, Sega would abandon the sports game market.  Visual Concepts would continue the series alongside publisher Take Two (which renamed itself to 2K  Games) and continue the series under the name NBA 2K.  The Special Edition, which costs $99.99 will launch on September 7th, 4 days before the release of the Standard Edition.  No doubt we’ll learn more about the game at E3 next week.
