Ape Out is a top down Hotline Miami-styled game with Apes and Jazz. It has a minimalist art style and a high energy jazz soundtrack. Playing as an ape that has been taken captive, you’re goal is to make your way to freedom while brutally killing anyone in your way. You smash enemies against the wall, throw objects at them, and take them as human shields as you make your way through the game’s levels (called albums). The frantic jazz soundtrack which reacts to your actions, the easy to pick up controls, and the art style make this game something unique as you reduce enemies to splotches of blood. It’s a bit on the buggy side and the developer is hard at work patching. It’s a bit short for its $15 asking price, but here’s hoping we can get some additional content. As it is though, Ape Out is a fun game, and if you want something different, you’ll love it.
